Wrote To Arataki Triumphs in Bellmaine Stakes

Mark Smith - Saturday February 4

Making her black-type debut, the Matthew Williams-trained Wrote To Arataki captured Saturday’s Group III Lamaro's Geoffrey Bellmaine Stakes (1300m) at Sandown-Hillside under a front-running masterpiece by Jamie Kah.

Coming off an all-the-way win over 1400m at Flemington, the 4yo daughter of Wrote defeated the ever-consistent Rich Enuff mare Belle Et Riche by a half-length with the I Am Invincible mare Forbidden City a length back in third.

Wrote To Arataki advances her record to four wins, a second, and two thirds from ten starts with earnings of $265,340.

She was sourced for the Williams stable through bloodstock agent Phill Cataldo after finishing third in her only trial in New Zealand for Emma-Lee and David Browne.

“She has made a fair transition. She has so much confidence and keeps taking the next step,” Matthew Williams said.

“She is relaxing better on race day. She used to get a bit stirry and now she is so much more relaxed about it.

“She has always had the ability. We always thought it was there, but to think she would be winning a Group III mares race would be unthinkable six months ago.

“Jamie has a knack to let horses flow. I don’t know what it is, but she is very good at it. I gave no instructions other than to ride her how you find her.

“The Frances Tressady, or the Mannerism will be considered. We will see what Jamie thinks. There are a couple of mile races as well.

“She was as good as we could have her today. We backed off her after her win at Flemington.

“Have to thank Phill Cataldo in New Zealand, who sources these horses for us, and to all the team at home.”

Wrote To Arataki is the second stakes-winner for Highview Stud’s Group 1 winning High Chaparral stallion Wrote.

She is the only winner from two to race out of the winning Align mare Galloping Gerte, a descendent of Eight Carat’s Group 1 winning daughter Diamond Lover.

Galloping Gerte has not been covered since producing Ring Jessie, an unraced 3yo sister to Wrote To Arataki.
