First Stakes Win for Snitzel Blueblood Filly

Tara Madgwick - Saturday November 26

A three-quarter sister-in-blood to multiple Group II winning colt Best of Bordeaux, Snitzel filly Vienna Princess was a maiden coming into the races at Caulfield on Saturday, but she has left it as a stakes-winner taking out the Listed MRC Twilight Glow Stakes (1400m).

Trained by Chris Waller and ridden by Craig Williams, Vienna Princess was second in a Lsited race at Randwick two starts back, but failed to show her best at Flemington when unplaced in the Listed VRC Desirable Stakes on Oaks Day.

With a strong pace set by tearaway leader The Unicorn, Vienna Princess got conditions to suit and charged home late to win by a length running away.

uo;The run at Flemington was forgive and they were really happy with her work on Tuesday and we saw the finished product now and she was very dominant today,” said Craig Williams.

A $400,000 Magic Millions purchase for Magic Bloodstock & Associates from the Baramul Stud draft, Vienna Princess is yet another stakes-winner bred and sold by Gerry Harvey and she’s from one of his best families.

With a win and two placings from seven starts and nearly $150,000 in prizemoney, Vienna Princess is the first foal from Graciousness, a winning half-sister by Street Cry (IRE) to Group I winner and sire Casino Prince as well as Group III winner Tagus and stakes-winners Lord of the Land and Metallurgical.

Graciousness is also a half-sister to the dams of Group I winner Prince Fawaz and star 3YO Best of Bordeaux, so it’s very much a family on the up.

Graciousness has a yearling colt by Written Tycoon that will be offered at Magic Millions 2023 as Lot 909 and produced a colt by Vienna Princess’s sire Snitzel this spring before being covered by Zoustar.

She has a two year-old Zoustar filly called Cordiality that was bought for $300,000 at Magic Millions earlier this year.

Vienna Princess becomes the 130th stakes-winner for Arrowfield Stud’s champion sire Snitzel, who has a very successful nick going with daughters of Street Cry.

The nick has produced 10 winners from 11 starters, so 90% winners to runners and four of those winners are stakes-winners with the stakes-winner to runner strike rate an impressive 36%.
