Tara Madgwick - Thursday November 24

The China Horse Club colours were carried to victory at Wyong on Thursday by a blue-blood daughter of Exceed and Excel with a top class international pedigree.

Meod wins on debut at Wyong - image Wyong Race Club Twitter

Trained by Michael Freedman, three year-old filly Meod had just one previous trial for a second at Randwick earlier this month, but that was enough to see her natural talent shine on debut.

She worked forward from an inside draw and kicked away down the running to win the 1000m maiden by a length under Tom Sherry.

Meod was a  $500,000 Inglis Easter purchase for Freedman Brothers Sydney / China Horse Club from the draft of Kia Ora Stud, who retain a share in her ownership.

She is a three-quarter sister to Aussie bred Japanese Group III winner Fiano Romano and Group III placed Ameristralia, who went to stud in North America for Spendthrift and is the dam of Group II Santa Anita Chandelier Stakes winner Ain’t Easy.

Meod is the sixth winner from six foals to race from imported Group III winner Heart Ashley (USA), a sibling to Group I winner Cupid, Group III winner Ashley’s Kitty (USA) (also at stud in Australia) and stakes-winner Indianapolis.

Heart Ashley died last year and her final foal is a yearling colt by The Autumn Sun.
