Pascero Impresses at Sandown

Mark Smith - Sunday September 25

A return to a firm surface on a track he relishes looks to be the key for Pascero returning to the winner's circle in Sunday's IVE Handicap (1400m) at Sandown-Hillside.

Ridden by Blake Shinn for Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young, the son of Pierro came with a barnstorming finish from the tail of the field to defeat Field Of Roses (Deep Field) by a short-neck, with the same distance back to He's The Real Deel (Dundeel) in third.

A Breednet One To Watch when he won on the Hillside track at his career debut back in January, Pascero backed that up with a win on the Lakeside track a month later, defeating the talented Pounding.

The son of Pierro then ran Pinstriped (Street Boss) to half a length when second in the Group III CS Hayes Stakes at Flemington. The chasing pack included Captivant and Forgot You, Zethus and Alegron.

Trent Busuttin said Pascero has been racing with little luck.

Bred and offered for sale by Blue Gum Farm, Pascero was a $575,000 Inglis Premier purchase for First Light Racing / Busuttin Racing / Paul Willetts Bloodstock. He was the most expensive Pierro colt sold in Australia in 2020.

A half-brother to Listed Chautauqua Stakes winner Express Pass (Wandjina), Pascero is one of four winners from as many to race from the More More Than Ready (USA) mare Pass the Parcel.

Pascero a $575,000 Inglis Premier yearling

Express Racing / Nick Ryan Racing shelled out $150,000 for a brother to Express Pass consigned by Newhaven Park to the 2022 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale.

A descendant of blue hen Denise's Joy, Pass The Parcel has a yearling colt by Castelvecchio and foaled a Snitzel filly on September 12.
