Snitzel's Three-Quarter Brother Opens His Account

Mark Smith - Wednesday September 14

The stakes-placed More Than Ready (USA) mare Weiner was a regular visitor to the court of Redoute’s Choice, so it was only fitting that she would have one of the final 23 foals from the legendary stallion's last crop.

Of course, being a half-sister to Redoute’s Choice’s masterpiece Snippets, it did not require a lot of thought to send Weiner to the Arrowfield Stud breed-shaper.

The final rendezvous of the pair is the 3yo Chris Waller-trained colt Rediener who opened his winning account in Vinery Stallions Maiden Hcp (1400m) at Warwick Farm on Wednesday.

Ridden by Hugh Bowman, Rediener was three pairs back on the rail when stopped in his tracks at the 600m after getting on heels when the pace slackened. With a packing field around the turn, Bowman found a seam and Rediener darted through to defeat Sebring gelding Ring Ahoy by a half-length with Not A Single Doubt colt Surf On Turf a half-head back in third.

In an open betting race, Rediener started favourite off the back of a debut third behind the promising Zoustar colt Scientist over the same track and distance on August 31.

Stable representative Charlie Duckworth said he was happy with all four stable runners, with Ring Ahoy second, the I Am Invincible colt Buillt fourth, and the Siyouni filly Zakiyya just over two lengths from the winner in sixth.

“I think Hugh will just be thankful to get back in the weighing room,” Duckworth said.

“It looked quite scrappy approaching the home turn. He got on heels and looked to be in a bit of bother.

“He was strong late when Hugh pulled the trigger and accelerated nicely.

“It was a good performance today. He is still an inexperienced horse learning his craft. Losing momentum, coming through a narrow gap, and hitting the line gives confidence as he heads to stiffer opposition.

Redoute's Choice

Redoute's Choice

A homebred for bred Neil Werrett and partners, Rediener is brother to stakes-placed Redoutable Heart and a half to Listed winner Rathlin (Fastnet Rock) and stakes-placed Za Zi Ba (All Too Hard). He is the ninth winner from as many foals of Weiner.

Besides Snitzel, Weiner is a half-sister to Group III AJC Skyline Stakes winner and successful stallion Hinchinbrook (Fastnet Rock) and Group III SAJC Janz Stakes winner Viennese (Redoute’s Choice).

Garvin and Cousens shelled out $200,000 for Weiner’s The Autumn Sun colt consigned by Kitchwin Hills to the 2022 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.

The 19yo Weiner has a yearling colt by Fastnet Rock and visited Wootton Bassett (GB) last spring.
