100 Stakes-Winners for Frankel

Tara Madgwick - Saturday July 30

Glorious Goodwood has concluded with the featured Group II Lillie Langtry Stakes won by Sea the Stars filly Sea La Rosa, but the real interest overnight was the big milestone for Frankel, who posted his 100th stakes-winner.

With seven crops of racing age, 14 YO Frankel achieved the feat when three year-old filly Emotion scored a length win in the Chalice Stakes (1m4f) at Newmarket in the Qatar Racing colours.

Trained by John and Thady Gosden, Emotion broke her maiden at her second start in May before coming up short in two subsequent stakes races, but the big filly scored a good win here under Andrea Atzeni.

“With Emotion winning so easy at Kempton she didn't really have a race and learn an awful lot. Being pitched in with a lot of runners at Ascot probably taught her more than we thought. I think maybe long term she could be a Galtres Stakes or Park Hill type filly. She's a lovely big filly and there is plenty of her,” said Kevin Darley, owners' representative.

With two wins from five starts, Emotion is a half-sister to Group II winning Champion Older European Female Stayer Morgan Le Fay and is the third winner from Group I Prix du Cadran winner Molly Malone.

Statisticians have revealed Frankel has achieved his 100 stakes-winners in exactly the same record time frame as the mighty Danehill taking 2402 days which is quicker than both Galileo and Dubawi.

Frankel runs at 16.3% stakes-winners to runners and since January 1 has sired a whopping 25 stakes-winners worldwide, eight of them Group I winners.

He stood for £200,000 at Juddmonte Farm’s Banstead Manor in 2022.

Frankel has his century of stakes-winners!

The Group II Lillie Langtry Stakes (1m6f) was won by the William Haggas trained Sea La Rosa, who scored by a length taking her overall record to six wins from 13 starts with three of those wins in stakes races.

A €200,000 purchase from 2019 Arqana Deauville Yearling Sale for Mandore Agency, she runs for Sunderland Holdings and is a full sister to Group III winner Deauville Legend from stakes-winning Hernando mare Soho Rose, a sister to Group II winner Hanami.

Sea La Rosa holds entries for several upcoming Group I races.
