Exciting Thronum youngster Thron Bone is heading for stakes grade after his third successive win in the MRC Membership Hcp (1200m) at Caulfield on Saturday.
Allowed to find his feet from a wide gate by Will Price, Thron Bone spent the majority of the race wide without cover but looked to have plenty to offer before the home turn and ultimately sustained a powerful finish to win comfortably.
Winning trained Jerome Hunter revealed after the race that he had sent the two-year-old to the spelling paddock after his previous win to prepare for a tilt at the Group Three Vain Stakes but had a change of heart due to the horse thriving.
“We put him out and were going to go to the Vain Stakes but he was doing so well out I thought why stop while we’re going good.
“It’s six weeks between runs so we thought we’d bring him here just to keep him ticking over. He’s still got another three weeks.”
“Caulfield 1200 suited him down to the ground. He was too good today,” said Price.
“He’s going to go on to bigger and better things.”

Thron Bone is the second foal and first winner for Thorsborne a 4-time winning daughter of Hinchinbrook. Purchased by Andrew Williams bloodstock for $50,000 at the 2017 Inglis Chairmans Sale, Thorsborne is a sister to Group II ATC Skyline Stakes winner Diamond Tathagata and a half-sister to dual Listed winner Ancestry.
Graeme Gathercole purchased Thorsborne’s weanling Fiorente filly for $8,000 at the Inglis Great Southern Weanling Sale.
Thorsborne was covered by Trapeze Artist last spring.
The winner of the Group II MVRC Australia Stakes, Thronum stands at Widden Victoria at a fee of $7,700.
