Tycoon Evie Brings Up the Half Century for Written Tycoon

Mark Smith - Saturday July 9

After two black-type placings, the 4yo Written Tycoon mare Tycoon Evie sent her worth soaring while completing a great day for Rex Lipp and Nicholas Hahn when capturing Saturday’s Group III Magic Millions Pam O’Neil Stakes (1600m) at Doomben.

A first Group winner for Adin Thompson, Tycoon Evie defeated Zing (Zoustar) by a half-neck with She's The Gift (Power) a short-neck back in third.

A sister to the flying Winning Rupert was bred by part-owner Jeff Cullen, the former principal of Wicklow Lodge.

The daughter of Written Tycoon advances her record to six four two from 20 starts with earnings of $389,300.

“It was a nice win. It’s a race we have been planning for ever since it was transferred to this day. She’s come up trumps,” Lipp said.

“She hasn’t had a run for a while going from 1200m to 1600, a big jump, but I was never worried about that at all.”

“I think she’ll go for a spell. I don’t know what we’ll do, but she won’t be racing for a while here.”

Nicholas Hahn reflected on a memorable day and what Tycoon Evie means to him since joining forces with Rex Lipp.

“It’s a great thrill. She means a lot to us this mare. She gave us the first win in partnership and my first winner when I started working for Rex, it’s great to win today,” Hahn said.

It was also a meaningful moment for Adin Thompson

“First Group winner. It’s very exciting. I don’t get very many opportunities or rides, so I just keep working and good stuff does come around,” he said.

“It sounds funny, but I wasn’t real keen on the idea of jumping out of barrier one because I know the horse likes a bit of room, but everything panned out and worked out a treat.”

Tycoon Evie and Winning Rupert are the best of four winners from six to race out of the talented Show A Heart mare Winaura.

A 5-time winner Winaura’s most recent foal is the 3yo Capitalist filly Celtic Empress.
