Zapateo continued the winning run enjoyed by Godolphin at Scone on Saturday when sweeping down the centre of the track to claim the Listed Coolmore Denise’s Joy Stakes (1100m).
Ridden by Rachel King for James Cummings, the daughter of Brazen Beau overcame a wide run to defeat the Deep Field filly a Very Fine Red by a length with the Better Than Ready filly Coco Rox a further long neck back in third.
Runner-up in the Group III PJ Bell Stakes at Randwick at her most recent start, Zapateo advances her record to three wins and four seconds from eight starts with earnings of $327,450
Zapateo is the fifth of six foals left by Jerezana before her tragic death in 2019.
Winner of the Listed Ramornie Handicap, Jerezana proved to be among the elite broodmares at Darley.
All five foals to race from Jerezana have displayed well above average ability.
Leading the way is the high-class Street Cry (IRE) gelding Osborne Bulls, whose nine wins from 20 starts include the Group II VRC TAB Stakes, Listed Regal Roller Stakes and Listed Luskin Star Stakes. He was runner-up in the Group 1 Newmarket Handicap, Group 1 All-Aged Stakes, Group 1 Black Caviar Lightning Stakes, Group 1 TJ Smith Stakes, and third in The Everest. The son of Street Cry (IRE) contributed $2,871,760 to the Godolphin coffers.
The final foal of Jerezana is the unraced 2yo Street Boss (USA) colt Zaragoza.
Zapateo is the 17th stakes-winner for Darley Stud’s Brazen Beau, who covers in 2022 for a fee of $44,000.
