Timely Return to Form for Shout The Bar

Mark Smith - Friday March 25

Due to be sold at the Inglis Chairman’s Sale, the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott-trained mare Shout the Bar broke a 72-week drought when going coast to coast in the $300,000 Group II BMDSunline Stakes (1600m) at Moonee Valley on Friday night.

Ridden by Mark Zahra, the 5yo daughter of Not A Single Doubt had the field off the bit before turning for home. She was untroubled in defeating the Rebel Raider filly Barb Raider by four lengths with a further half-length back to the favoured Tavistock mare Flying Mascot, who pulled up lame.

Winner of the Group 1 ATC Vinery Stud Stakes, Shout The Bar has been winless since defeating Odeum and Forbidden Love in the Group 1 VRC Empire Rose Stakes in October 2020.

“We’ve been plagued with wet tracks in Sydney, so to get a Good 4 tonight and stepping up to the mile, she was just terrific,” stable representative Claudia Miller said.

“A good track and fitness-wise she was on point

“We’re probably looking towards the Queen Of The Turf. Fingers crossed that it stops raining in Sydney.”

A $200,000 purchase by Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott Racing, out of the Newhaven Park draft at the 2018 Gold Coast Magic Millions Sale, Shout The Bar advances her record to six wins, a second, and a third from 18 starts with earnings of $1,344,075.

Bred by Ron Finemore and Planette Thoroughbreds and carrying the silks of Frank and Christine Cook’s Mystery Downs, Shout The Bar is the best of two winners from three to race out of Drinks All Round.
