Juvenile Trial Watch – Rosehill

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday March 22

Six heats won by two year-olds at Rosehill on Tuesday morning with some interesting winners including a stakes class Snitzel colt, a filly by champion sire Exceed and Excel that is undefeated at the trials and a colt that is the only 2YO by his sire in Australia.

Third on debut at Canterbury in February and an unlucky fourth to Sejardan in the Group II ATC Todman Stakes, the Chris Waller trained colt Showcourt was kept up to the mark in his heat with a three-quarter length win under James McDonald.

He holds an entry for the Group I ATC Sires Produce Stakes.

A $550,000 Inglis Easter purchase that runs for Orbis Bloodstock, Showcourt is a three-quarter brother to Group II winner Doubtland and stakes-winner Pretty Fast being from good producer Miss Sharapova, who has had four foals to race all winners.

Arrowfield Stud will offer her yearling colt by Dundeel at Inglis Easter as Lot 294.

Also with an entry for The Championships is the Bjorn Baker trained Ginger’s Gal, who has been to the trials four times now for four wins and is entered for the Group II ATC Percy Sykes Stakes.

Runner-up  Lamorlaye also well worth following, did a good job at her second trial after winning her first on the polytrack. Gorgeous looking Snitzel filly and is the first foal of a fast French stakes-winning daughter of Iffraaj in Iffranesia (Fr).

Bred and sold by Yulong, Ginger’s Gal is a half-sister to Group III winner Irukandji and her Group II placed dam Cerberus Gal has had five to race all winners with this daughter of Exceed and Excel likely to be her sixth.

In the first 1030m heat, which also included 3YO’s, the Peter and Paul Snowden trained colt Libertaar was an interesting winner on pedigree given he is the only 2YO in Australia by his sire Muhaarar, a Group I winning sprinter by Oasis Dream.

He was having his fourth trial and second this prep and despite covering plenty of ground in the run was strong to the line winning by more than a length.

Bred by Shadwell and offered at Inglis Easter by Yarraman Park where he was bought by Snowden Racing for $110,000, Libertaar is the first foal of Aussie bred South African Group II winner Ektifaa.

She  was bought by Kia Ora Stud at the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale last year for $1.7million when Shadwell dispersed all their Australian stock and her weanling filly by I Am Invincible was also sold for $600,000 to Mitchell Bloodstock..

She will be offered in the Yarraman Park at Inglis Easter this year as Lot 145 and has an important pedigree update as this season’s stakes-winning Zoustar 2YO colt Millane appears in the female family.

Other heat winners were: Captain Bond (Capitalist), Chain of Gold (Sooboog) and Czar (Russian Revolution), who was too strong for the Maher Eustace trained colt Counttheheadlights, who was last seen finishing eighth in the Group I MRC Blue Diamond Stakes.

We often talk about colts with a stallion’s pedigree and Czar has one!

He is the first foal of Museo (GB), a half-sister by Teofilo to the dam of dual Group I winner Victory Ludorum and most importantly she is a grand-daughter of Group I Irish Oaks winner Helen Street, dam of champion sire Street Cry and grand-dam of another champion sire in Shamardal.

Ron Gilbert’s Highgrove Stud bred and sold Czar and they’ve had luck with this female family before having also bred and sold Group II winner Thronum (Snitzel)  and this season’s 2YO Cythera (I Am Invincible), who are from Helena’s Secret (GB), another grand-daughter of Helen Street.
