Canberra Guineas Winner for Flying Artie

Tara Madgwick - Monday March 14

Another stakes-winner raised and sold by Newgate Farm, Flying Artie gelding Flying Crazy has always promised to measure up to stakes class and he did so at Canberra on Monday scoring an exciting win in the $130,000 Listed Canberra Guineas (1400m).

Trained by Gerald Ryan and Sterling Alexiou, Flying Crazy was ninth at his most recent run behind champion colt Anamoe in the Group II ATC Hobartville Stakes when he was slowly away and appreciated a drop in class for this assignment.

Given a cool ride by Keagan Latham, he charged home from back in the field taking a narrow gap along the fence to sprint home and win by three-quarters of a length over $1.1million Redoute’s Choice colt Military Expert.

“When he got the run he just exploded and I think he’s a horse for the future,” said Keagan Latham.

Flying Crazy has the tidy record of three wins and two placings from eight starts with prizemoney topping $161,000.

A $40,000 Inglis Classic purchase from the Newgate Farm draft for WBF Thoroughbreds / Equi-Com Syndications, Flying Crazy was bred by SF Bloodstock in partnership and foaled and raised at Newgate Farm.

Flying Crazy was a $40,000 Inglis Classic purchase from the Newgate Farm draft.

He is the first winner for Forever Crazy, a winning Encosta de Lago half-sister to the dams of Group II winner Hawkshot and stakes-winner Power Scheme.

Forever Crazy comes from the family of Group I winners Shindig and Shinzig and her two year-old colt by Russian Revolution was also bought by Equi-Com Syndications for $80,000 last year at Inglis Easter.

Forever Crazy is the third stakes-winner for Flying Artie, who covered his biggest ever book of 201 mares last spring at a fee of $33,000.
