Third in last weeks Listed Starlight Stakes at Rosehill, the Tony Gollan-trained Tambo’s Mate returned home to win Saturday’s Listed Sky Racing Tatt's Recognition Stakes (1350m) mat Doomben.
It was the second win in the race for the son of Mossman, who scored two years ago when trained by Stuart Kendrick.
The 6yo son of Mossman battled on gamely under Ryan Maloney to defeat Tumbler Ridge (Spill The Beans) by a short-neck with Niccanova (Nicconi) three-quarters of a length back in third.
With his fourth stakes win, Tambo’s Mate advances his record to eleven wins, three seconds, and three thirds from 28 starts with earnings of $716,825.
“It was a case of third time lucky for me in the Recognition,” Gollan said.
“I had no worries in backing him up. I backed him up once before, and he came back in trip and won.
“When he won the Keith Noud, he trialled on the Tuesday prior, so he is a really tough horse. The sought you want on your team.
“He tries so hard, and Ryan has a good understanding of him.”
A homebred for Dalan Tamblyn, Tambo’s Mate is the best of three winners from five to race out of the Brisbane winning Canny Lad mare Passagemaker, a daughter of the Listed stakes-winner Georgia Belle (Clear Choice).
Passagemaker has a 2yo filly by Churchill (IRE) who was passed in short of her $50,000 reserve 2021 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale.
Passagemaker was covered by Pierata in December last year.
