Undefeated Tarzino Filly is an Oaks Prospect

Mark Smith - Saturday December 4

David Vandyke keeps raising the bar for Gypsy Goddess and the three-year-old daughter of Tarzino continues to jump it.

Early on Vandyke thought Gypsy Goddess would be lucky to win and maiden.

After keeping her record at a perfect three for three with a hugely impressive performance in Saturday’s XXXX Eagle Way Quality (2000m) at Doomben, Vandyke believes he has an oaks prospect on his hands.

Ridden by Stephanie Thornton, Gypsy Goddess came from back in the field, was speared off on the turn before storming home to defeat Pool Pony (Shalaa) by a length and a quarter with Ashgrove (Dundeel) one and a half lengths back in third.

Gypsy Goddess broke her maiden over 1400m at the Sunshine Coast on October 17, before making it two from two over 1600m on the same track three weeks later.

“A big effort that. Before her first run I thought she would be lucky to win a maiden – now I think she will win the oaks,” Vandyke said.

“It’s amazing when horses keep improving, which is what she has been doing.

“The Grand Prix in two weeks will be her grand final.

“I love the way she switches off. She did plenty wrong today and proved dominant.

Consigned by Curraghmore to the 2020 NZB Karaka yearling Sale, Gypsy Goddess left the ring unsold when failing to attract a buyer despite a modest $20,000 reserve.

Gypsy Goddess failed to make $20,000 at Karaka

“Dr Chris Lawler did all the hard work to pick her out and a good client and friend Bob Jones is a major shareholder. It’s a good syndicate of blokes that leave me alone and they are patient.

“She is by Tarzino who is really starting to make a name for himself. I love the breed.”

Gypsy Goddess is the fourth foal and third winner out of the unraced Redoute’s Choice mare, Invisible Coin.

A sister to the Group 1 AJC Flight Stakes winner Cheeky Choice, Invisible Coin was purchased by Qatar Bloodstock for $60,000 from the Teeley Asset Dispersal at the 2014 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale.

Invisible Coin has a 2yo brother to Gypsy Goddess.
