Punters flocked to support the Anthony and Sam Freedman trained Frankel filly Argentia when she resumed from a spell on Saturday in the Listed MVRC Atlantic Jewel Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley , but it was her stablemate Zouzarella that zoomed to a powerful two length victory.
The Zoustar filly opened her account with a stylish winning debut at the same track on August 21 on good ground and took a quantum leap to win a stakes race at just her second start on soft going.
Easy in the market, Zouzarella was ridden quietly by Brett Prebble and stormed home out wide to score an impressive win over the Godolphin filly Larkspur Run with her well fancied stablemate Argentia going to the line untested back in the pack.
"S
he's handled the ground at home and in her trials she's handled it really well. We knew she would,” said Sam Freedman.
"She didn't have a lot of luck in running, but she is that sort of big-framed filly who probably enjoys a bit room when she's able to pin the ears back like that.
"The query today was that she's looking for 1400 and she was powerful to the line.
"She'll probably head to the Jim Moloney Stakes next and then we'll probably got to the Thousand Guineas after that.
"A big thank you to Cambridge Stud for sending her our way. She's a beautiful filly."
Brett Prebble has been aboard Zouzarella at each of her wins and is in love with the daughter of Zoustar.
“What you're seeing is what I felt a very long time ago. When it comes to fruition its a nice feeling,” he said.
"It doesn't matter what the distance is when they're that good. The Freedmans have had champions win derbies and then winning three Lightnings in a row so I'm not telling the Freedmans where to run a horse, but wherever she goes I just hope I've got a seat on her."
Zouzarella was consigned to the 2020 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale by Glastonbury Stud, where Cambridge Stud had the final say at $250,000.
She is the second foal and second winner for the well-performed Al Maher mare Zazparella, a 6-time winning sister to the stakes-placed Almachino and a half-sister to stakes-placed Lets Get Nauti Gal.
Zazparella was purchased by Zouzarella’s breeder Dale Corrigan for $45,000 at the 2016 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale. After foaling a So You Think filly last spring, Zazparella was covered by Highland Reel (IRE).
Zouzarella comes with an intriguing pedigree as she has a double cross of not only Danehill, but also Fairy King, not to mention blue hen Dancing Show as her pedigree also features Redoute’s Choice and his three-quarter brother-in-blood Al Maher.
Zouzarella is the 24th stakes-winner for Zoustar, who stands at Widden Stud at a fee of $154,000.
