Lonhro's Darceandermill Captures Ron Hutchinson Hcp

Mark Smith - Monday June 14

Baring his teeth to the breeze, Darceandermill led at every call to win the inaugural running of the Ron Hutchinson Hcp (1200m) at Mornington on Monday.

Ridden by Will Price for local trainers Jason Warren and Dean Krongold, Darceandermill comfortably held the heavily backed favourite Beagle (Pride Of Dubai) with River Views (Written Tycoon) three and three-quarter lengths back in third.

Darceandermill had some support at his career debut in the Listed Debutante Stakes at Caulfield in October last year. However, he was never a factor there and was not seen out again until breaking his maiden over 1000m at Bendigo at his most recent start on June 5.

“We went out with a plan knowing we had one of the fittest horses in the race,” Warren said.

“The 1200 metres here on a heavy track here is a pretty stiff test for two-year-olds. We made sure we made good use of his fitness, and he is a real professional.

“I don’t think 1200 metres is really his trip, but I felt the way the race shaped he could get away with it. So anywhere from 1000m to 1200m he has a good future.

“He jumped a length in front, and there were some very quick horses in the race. So there is a bit to look forward too that’s for sure.”

Purchased by Kevaar Investments Pty Ltd ATF Kevaar Investments Trust for $80,000 out of the Toolooganvale Farm draft at the 2020 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale, Darceandermill is a brother to the hard-knocking Beacon who has won seven and placed in 15 of his 40 starts while banking $252,325.

Darceandermill an $80,000 Easter Yearling

His dam is the stakes-placed Fastnet Rock mare Luce Del Mar, a $200,000 Easter Yearling purchase by Mark Kavanagh. She is a daughter of the Group III winner and Group 1-placed Cosmic Strike (Made Of Gold) and a half-sister to the dams of Group III winner Merryl (Epaulette) and dual Listed winner River’s Lane (Street Cry).

Luce Del Mar has a yearling filly by Capitalist and a weanling filly by Russian Revolution. She was covered by Cosmic Force last spring.
