Stakes Breakthrough for Valuable Redoute's Choice Filly

Mark Smith - Friday March 12

For all but the final 150 metres of Friday's $200,000 Group III Carlton Draught Kembla Grange Classic (1600m), Miravalle did little to raise the hopes of her supporters.

Back midfield and buried away on the fence, Miravalle looked a forlorn hope before Tom Sherry found some clear air.

The Mark Newnham-trained daughter of Redoute's Choice charged home late to defeat the favourite Elizabeel (Power) by three-quarters of a length with Pippali (Ilovethiscity) a nose back in third.

Fourth in the Group 1 VRC Oaks and Group II Wakeful Stakes last spring, Miravalle made her 2021 debut in the Group 1 Surround Stakes at Randwick on February 27.

She had a similar run to that in the Kembla Grange Classic, but she remained untested that day, finishing 12th of the 16 runners.

It was a first stakes-win for Tom Sherry.

"It was a goal I set out for myself at the start of the season," the young Irishman said.

"t's a great thrill to ride it for my boss and especially big owners like Arrowfield."

A three-quarter sister to Group 1 New Derby winner Redoute's Dancer, Miravalle advances her record to two wins from nine starts with earnings of $222,000.

Carrying Arrowfield Stud's colours, Miravalle was a $460,000 purchase by Rick Worthington, on behalf of Arrowfield, out of the Kulani Park draft at the 2019 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

That was quite a premium on the $10,000 shelled out by Darby racing for her half-sister Yankee Rose (All American) at the 2015 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale.

Yankee Rose proved herself one of the great bargains of the turf. She was honoured as the Champion 2YO Filly and 3YO Filly in Australia in 2015-16 & 2016-17. Her four wins included the Group 1 ATC Sires' Produce Stakes and Group 1 Spring Champion Stakes, and she was runner-up in the Golden Slipper and third in the WS Cox Plate.

Yankee Rose and Miravalle are out of the Xaar mare Condesaar as is the 3-time winning Choisir mare Great Dansaar, the dam of the dynamic Deep Field filly Isotope.

Rosemont Stud purchased Condesaar for $320,000 out of the Kulani Park draft at the 2018 National Broodmare Sale.

The Medaglia d'Oro (USA) colt she was carrying failed to make his $450,000 reserve at the 2020 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.

Named Imminent Risk and sent to Danny O'Brien, he made his debut

with a solid second in an 1100m maiden at Ballarat on Tuesday.

Rosemont Stud sold a full-sister to Miravalle for $500,000 to Bahen Bloodstock/Matt Laurie Racing at the Gold Coast Yearling Sale in January.

Condesaar has a filly foal by Starcraft and was covered by Exceedance last spring.

Miravalle becomes the 178th stakes-winner for the breed-shaper Redoute's Choice who has nine lots catalogued from his final crop at the Inglis Australian Easter Sale.
