A heavy track made no difference to promising Exceed and Excel colt Oxley Road at Flemington on Friday, the three year-old full brother to Vinery Stud’s Group I VRC Coolmore Stud Stakes winner Exceedance opening his account with an easy victory.
Trained by Peter Moody, Oxley Road was favourite for the 1000 three year-old maiden and scored a cosy length and a half win.

as a big opinion of the colt, who is entered for the Group I VRC Newmarket Handicap."I cheekily nommed him for a Newmarket a few weeks back, but that's pie in the sky and way too soon," he said.
"But does he find a little Stakes race somewhere towards the end of this prep and maybe that race in Adelaide (Euclase Stakes), the Group II over there."
A $125,000 Magic Millions purchase from the Newgate Farm draft for part-owner Stephen Gray, Oxley Road was bred by Nick Vass and is the second winner for stakes-winning Thorn Park mare Bonnie Mac, whose only other foal to race is Exceedance.
A Singapore based Kiwi trainer, Stephen Gray sent the horse to Peter Moody to try and judging from his debut performance the colt will not be going to Singapore anytime soon!
Bonnie Mac was on-sold by Newgate at the 2019 Magic Millions Broodmare Sale fetching $375,000 when bought by Allam Racing/Andrew Williams Bloodstock when in foal to Capitalist.
The resulting colt has been catalogued for the 2021 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale by Yarraman Park as Lot 222.
Sadly, he is her last foal as Bonnie Mac died in May last year.
Oxley Road’s older brother Exceedance started his stud career at Vinery last spring covering 142 mares at a fee of $38,500.
