One to Watch – Moruya

Tara Madgwick - Monday January 4

This horse has already won three races, but we’re tipping he can be winning a Highway race in the near future and given he’s a half-brother to one of the most interesting two year-old winners since New Year that makes him a ‘One to Watch’.

Godolphin blueblood Kattegat was not quite good enough for the James Cummings stable, but the four year-old gelding certainly doing a great job for Moruya trainer Natalie Jarvis, who bought him as a tried horse from the Godolphin reduction at the 2020 Magic Millions Autumn Racehorse Sale for $30,000.

A half-brother by Medaglia D’Oro (USA) to Group III winner Hanseatic and last weekend’s impressive debut 2YO winner Frost Flowers, Kattegat placed twice from five starts for Godolphin before heading to the South Coast and has obviously enjoyed the change of scene.

He won two races for Jarvis in his first preparation for her and coasted home a very easy winner at Moruya on Monday in the Class 3 contest over 1200m after placing in Highway races at his previous two starts.

Already a winner of over $100,000 in prizemoney, his turn in the metropolitan winner’s circle cannot be far away!

Godolphin reductions of tried stock offer great opportunities to secure well bred horses that have had every benefit in life and are well educated and sound to race on with success, albeit at a lower level than required of a global breeding operation.
