A last-start winner of the Group III Scarborough Stakes at Moonee Valley, Shamus Award filly Swats That kept the ball rolling with a convincing win in Saturday’s Group III Thoroughbred Club Stakes at Caulfield.
With John Allen in the saddle, the Leon and Troy Corstens-trained filly sat on the speed set by Bella Nipotina Bella and Capriccio before drawing clear for a three-quarter of a length win over the I Am Invincible filly Muntaseera with the Pride Of Dubai filly Bella Nipotina staying on strongly to be a further half-length back in third.
The lightly raced Swats That advances her record to 3 wins and a second from 5 starts with earnings of $422,450.
“She jumped well it was a bit messy for the first 100 metres before they sorted themselves out and once they did she landed in a nice spot,” Allen said.
“I had to get her to relax after she got a bit fierce early, but she came back underneath me, switched off for a couple of furlongs and from where I was she was always going to be hard to beat.”
Troy Corstens said the Coolmore Stud Stakes is the goal for the saughter of Shamus Award.

“The way I was thinking from the start of the preparation was that I was keen to keep her to sprints and the management group was onside. I think that’s the way to go. We might try to stretch her out next preparation but we will try and get to the Coolmore (Stud Stakes) first.
A homebred for Adam Gay, Swats That is a sister to 2-time winner My Sweet Fish, out of the unraced Bel Esprit mare Is It A Mosquito whose dam Yes I Will (USA) (Danzig) is a daughter of the great racemare Let’s Elope.
