Magnus Flyer Breaks Record

Media Release - Monday October 5

Well, that was quick! MAGNUS sprinter, Black Magnum, has toppled both the hot priced favourite AND the Canterbury track record with a sizzling display in the Bowermans Commercial Furniture Handicap on Wednesday.

First out of the gates but soon headed by The Bopper, Black Magnum showed The Bopper some white lightning over the closing stages, stopping the clock at 1:02.98 for the 1100m.

Bred by Sun Stud – which also stands the new course record holder’s sire, MAGNUS – Black Magnum is out of the Testa Rossa mare, Titania Star and is raced by Golden Slipper winning syndicators, Darby Racing.

A 5YO with over a quarter million in the bank, Black Magnum races out of the Mark Newnham stable and has now won six races. Indeed, Black Magnum has finished in the money in 21 of 24 outings.

MAGNUS, meanwhile, stands at Sun Stud this season at a fee of $15,400 inc. GST – no payment until live foal – and Black Magnum is his 7th winner already in October.

With 34 winners and over $1 million in progeny earnings this season, MAGNUS is currently 7th on the Australian Sires’ Premiership by winners.
