Another Fighting Win for Mister Sea Wolf

Mark Smith - Saturday September 5

Connections of half the field in Saturday’s Group II Heineken Chelmsford Stakes (1600m) at Randwick would have walked off satisfied with the result, but none more so than the owners of the prolific winner Mister Sea Wolf (IRE) who led home a Chris Waller-trained 1-2-3.

A fifth stakes for Mister Sea Wolf (Steve Hart)

Given a positive ride by Nash Rawiller, the 9yo son of Amadeus Wolf battled courageously to a long-head win over Yulong Prince (SAF) (Gimmethegreenlight) with Finche (GB) (Frankel) a half-length back in third.

The winner of the inaugural running of the $1 million The Gong (1600m) at Kembla Grange in November last year, Mister Sea Wolf (IRE) advances his record to 12 wins, 5 seconds and 5 thirds from 50 starts with earnings of $1,555,737.

Originally trained in England before moving to Ireland, Mister Sea Wolf (IRE) made his way to Australia well-tried with 23 starts.

At his Australian debut, back in December 2017, he was just edged out by Testashadow in the Festival Stakes at Rosehill Gardens. He was placed in the Group III Newcastle Newmarket and Group III Doncaster Prelude before failing in the Group 1 Doncaster Mile at Randwick.’

He has since won the Group II ATC Shannon Stakes, Group III ATC Doncaster Prelude, Listed ATC Winter Challenge and Listed HRC Rowley Mile.

A half-brother to Woodside Park Stud's emerging young shuttle stallion Cable Bay (IRE) and to Listed winner Yulong Yuheng (Invincible Spirit) Mister Sea wolf (IRE) is one of seven winners from as many foals of the Diktat mare Rose de France who is a half-sister to Group III winner and Group 1 placed Bowman (Irish River) out of the top-class Dancing Brave mare Cherokee Rose whose five wins include the Group 1 Prix Maurice de Gheest and Group 1 Haydock Sprint Cup.
