Hong Kong Success Continues for Deep Field

Tara Madgwick - Sunday July 12

Deep Field might be making history in Australia as the most successful second crop sire ever by winners, but he’s also making waves in Hong Kong siring yet another impressive winner at Sha Tin on Sunday in Sky Field.

The Caspar Fownes trained three year old gelding was fourth and second at his previous two starts and was sent out a hot favourite for the 1200m class four event.

Under Joao Moreira, Sky Field gave his rivals a galloping lesson, opening up to win by four lengths.

“It’s been a while since I’ve ridden a nice young talent like him. The best part of it is that he feels like a raw type, that has plenty of improvement still,” said winning rider Joao Moreira.

“There are no words to describe what a great feeling you get when you ride such a nice horse.”

A $175,000 Karaka Book 1 purchase from the Trelawney Stud draft for Mr D Kwan, Sky Field is the fifth winner from Laravissante, a half-sister by O’Reilly to Hong Kong Group I winner The Duke.

Deep Field has made a great impression in Hong Kong where he has had five winners from 10 runners.

He stands at a fee of $55,000 at Newgate Farm this sprin.
