Group III placed last spring, the Team Hawkes trained colt Dirty Work has taken a while to hit his straps, but has really come of age this preparation winning two on the trot at Randwick before taking on older sprinters in the Listed Ortensia Stakes (1100m) at Rosehill on Saturday.

He soared to a new level delivering a comprehensive two and a half length victory under Tommy Berry.

An $800,000 Inglis Easter purchase from the Sledmere Stud draft for Spendthrift Australia, Dirty Work has the overall record of four wins and three placings from 13 starts with earnings topping $200,000.

Bred by Rifa Mustang, he is the first winner for metro winning Maidel, a half-sister by Ad Valorem (USA) to Group III winner Gamay and stakes-winner Meidung, the dam of Group II winner Banish.

Maidel has a yearling filly by Written Tycoon and is in foal to his Golden Slipper winning son Capitalist.

Dirty Work is the 34th stakes-winner for Written Tycoon, who will stand at a fee of $77,000 this spring at Arrowfield.

Written Tycoon  posted a stakes double on Saturday with the Peter and Paul Snowed trained gelding Hightail landing the Group III $125,000 Gold Coast Guineas (1200m) to go beside his earlier win last year in the Listed Gosford Guineas.

Hightail scored a thrilling half head win taking his overall record to five wins and five placings from 14 starts with earnings in excess of $786,000 thanks to his third in the $2million Magic Millions 2YO Classic as a juvenile behind Exhilarates and fourth in the $2million 3YO Guineas to Alligator Blood.

Hightail was a $520,000 Magic Millions purchase from the Woodside Park draft for China Horse Club/Newgate/Winstar.

Bred by Woodside Park, he is the best of two winners from La Paris, a half-sister by Falvelon to stakes winner Ringa Ringa Rosie from the family of Group I winner Dashing Eagle.

La Paris has a yearling filly by Rich Enuff and is in foal to Written Tycoon.
