South Island Sale on Gavelhouse Plus

Media Release - Monday April 20

The first-ever New Zealand Bloodstock sale to be conducted on gavelhouse.com’s new online platform, Gavelhouse Plus, will be NZB’s annual South Island Sale.

Postponed from its original April date to August due to the COVID-19 lockdown and travel restrictions, the decision has now been made to sell the horses online in June.

Gavelhouse Plus allows NZB to use the original conditions of sale which allows selling to registered bidders only while paying the vendor out as it would a traditional auction.

“One of the biggest benefits is that the horses offered will be Karaka Million Series eligible, which wasn’t possible until now,” commented NZB Managing Director Andrew Seabrook.

“After liaising with several South Island vendors over the last few weeks it is envisaged that most of the horses catalogued for August will transfer to Gavelhouse Plus.”

Leading vendor Gus Wigley from Inglewood Stud is positive about the online arrangement.

“I think that NZB has gone above and beyond to try and find a solution for breeders given the current economic climate.

“We struck success at Karaka 2020 selling a Zacinto colt for $280,000 in Book 1, and we decided to keep two other top colts for the South Island Sale.

“They are both strong Zacinto colts and we now have the ability to provide as much information as we can for prospective buyers, including conformation images and x-rays.

“The innovation of Gavelhouse Plus is an exciting new venture, particularly for the South Island vendors and I believe they will be grateful for this new initiative,” said Wigley.

Entries for the 2020 NZB South Island Sale in conjunction with Gavelhouse Plus remain open to all vendors until closing on Wednesday 27 May.

The Sale will commence on Thursday 28 May with bids closing on the first lot counting down from 5pm on Sunday 7 June.

gavelhouse.com are awaiting confirmation around government Alert levels to confirm the ability to carry out in person inspections, transport options and vet services available in terms of pre-purchase exams and post-sale scopes. There will be more clarity around this in due course.

More information relating to entries on the Gavelhouse Plus website plus online buyer registration will be available shortly.
