Written Tycoon's Ocean Emperor Prevails on Debut

Mark Smith - Wednesday April 15

Striking Written Tycoon colt Ocean Emperor lived up to his impressive barrier trial form when leading all the way at his career debut over 1100 metres on the Kensington track at Randwick on Wednesday.

Backed in from $7.50 to $$2.10, Ocean Emperor was used up early to take advantage of his inside barrier before Jason Collett set the Bjorn Baker-trained colt to an all-out drive at the 350m.

The Rubrick colt El Buena gradually wore in to the lead but fell a neck short while his Chris Waller-trained stablemate Overlord, a son of Sebring out of dual Group 1 winner Red Tracer, closed off strongly at his debut, to be three-quarter of a length back in third.

Ocean Emperor was a $220,000 purchase by Darby Racing / DeBurgh Equine out of the Tyreel Stud draft at the 2019 Classic Yearling Sale.Ocean Emperor as a yearling

He is the first foal of the very capable Fastnet Rock mare Bubbles 'N' Boats who was bred by Rod and Ron Dufficy.

Bubbles 'N' Boats is looking an inspired choice for Wallings Holdings/ Tyreel Stud who shelled out $25,000 to secure her at the 2016 Australian Broodmare and Weanling Sale.

A winner at Warwick Farm, Canterbury and Kembla when carrying the all cerise silks, Bubbles 'N' Boats was purchased by Ingham Racing for $450,000 at the 2011 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.

The daughter of Fastnet Rock is a half-sister to four winners including the Melbourne winner Dom Perion (Redoute’s Choice) who did the catalogue page a big favour when her son Extra Brut won the Group 1 Victoria Derby in 2018.

Bubbles 'N' Boats has a yearling filly by Astern but has missed for the past two seasons.
