Juvenile Trial Watch – Warwick Farm

Tara Madgwick - Friday April 3

The Ciaron Maher and David Eustace stable have had a production line of quality two year-olds running for them this season and this royally bred Snitzel colt that scored at the Warwick Farm trials on Friday morning could easily add to their success.

There were eight juvenile heats contested on the artificial track and some interesting winners with San Antonio an obvious eye catcher on pedigree and performance.

San Antonio was the widest runner through out his heat and powered to the line under a hold to win with authority and has now won both of his two trials to date.

A half-brother to Group I ATC Flight Stakes winner Oohood and stakes-placed Breakfast in Bed, the dam of this season’s Group III winning 2YO King’s Legacy, San Antonio is a colt with a stallion’s pedigree coming from the family of Not a Single Doubt.

San Antonio as a yearlingSegenhoe sold the current yearling from San Antonio’s dam Bella Sunday, a filly by Sooboog, at Inglis Premier last month for $250,000 and will offer a Redoute’s Choice colt from Breakfast in Bed at Inglis Easter as Lot 355.

Bred by Sheikh Mohammed Bin Khalifa Al Maktoum, who retains a share in his ownership, San Antonio was foaled at Coolmore and raised at Segenhoe.

San Antonio is the sort of progressive talented colt that may be severely disadvantaged by the abandonment of the Queensland Winter Carnival.

Traditionally a great place to condition talented juveniles not ready for a Slipper campaign in preparation for elite spring goals, the Queensland Winter Carnival will be greatly missed by a lot of trainers and owners this year.
