One to Watch – Pakenham

Tara Madgwick - Friday March 27

Richard Laming outlaid $300,000 for this Toronado (IRE) three year-old at the 2018 NZB Ready to Run Sale and he may well be worth the money and then some.

Having his first start at Pakenham on Friday, Master Montaro was sent out favourite in the 1000 metre maiden and cruised home to win by three and a half lengths.

Master Montaro was a super successful pinhook for Woburn Farm, having been bought from the Swettenham Stud draft at the Inglis Premier Yearling Sale for $80,000.

ToronadoMaster Montaro is a half-brother to Group II place Modoc and is the third winner from Circus Polka, a half-sister by Stravinsky (USA) to Group I winner Prized Icon and stakes-winner Matras, the grand-dam of stakes-winner Whispered Secret, who is by Toronado’s sire High Chaparral.

Circus Polka has been a regular visitor to Toronado having been covered by him for four season in a row and has yearling and weanling fillies to follow, while her two year-old colt by Toronado sold for $250,000 at Karaka Book 1 last year.

Master Montaro is the 32nd winner this season for Toronado, who is proving a very reliable source of winners that have won over $1.9 million in earnings this season.
