Contenders announced for NSW racehorse of the Year awards

Superstar galloper Winx is in line to win three awards at the 2016/17 New South Wales Racehorse Owners Association (NSWROA) racehorse of the year awards.

The Chris Waller-trained mare went through the season winning her eight starts, six of which were at Group I level including the Cox Plate, Queen Elizabeth Stakes, George Ryder Stakes and George Main Stakes.

Winx is eligible to win the Champion Horse of the year, Miler of the year and Middle Distance horse of the year.

The awards will be presented at the night themed "Celebrating the Best" in the Royal Randwick Ballroom on August 17.

"We are proud to again be supporting the Prince of Wales Hospital Foundation (POWHF) as our charity of choice for this year's event," the NSWROA release said.

"POWHF is an established charitable organisation supporting and promoting research, education, health promotion and patient care for and at the Prince of Wales Hospital Randwick.

"We encourage everyone to "dig deep" to help this very worthwhile cause.

Other awards to be presented on the night include the BOBS Horse of the Year, the Sydney Strapper of the Year, the NSW Racing Writers' Personality of the Year, the T J Smith Award, the George Moore Award, the Theo Green Award, the Bart Cummings Medal and the NSW Champion Horse of the Year.

The 2017 awards night will be televised live on Sky Thoroughbred Central.
