$150,000 Sebring Filly Tops MM Gold Coast March Day 1

Media Release - Monday March 16

A beautifully bred daughter of Golden Slipper winner Sebring topped Day One of the 2020 Gold Coast March Yearling Sale this afternoon.

The filly, consigned as Lot 63, was presented by Beaudesert based Bahrinna and will join the stables of star three-year-old Alligator Blood after being purchased by David Vandyke for $150,000.

David Vandyke and his $150,000 Sebring filly/The flashy youngster is the first foal of the former speedy Jet Spur mare Tina Melina - a winner of the listed Nudgee Stakes and earner of over $350,000.

Tina Melina is a half sister to Belle of the Turf Stakes and Weetwood Handicap winner Sexy Eyes - a mare who sold for $550,000 at last year's National Broodmare Sale.

Another of Tina Melina's half sisters is Innishbeg, a five time winner who is best known as the dam of stakes winners Aspect and Brown Ben.

Leading trainer Tony Gollan teamed up with bloodstock agent John Foote to secure the second highest seller on the day - Lot 199, the Spirit of Boom colt from Eureka Moment for $130,000.

That colt, offered later in the afternoon, was presented by Eureka Stud and is the fourth living foal of a General Nediym mare. Her two runners to date are both winners.

Earlier in the day Brisbane trainer Kelly Schweida went to $120,000 to secure Lot 39 from Eureka Stud.

The Spirit of Boom colt is a half brother to the brilliant black type performer Gem of Scotland.

Colts by Rothesay (Lot 75 - Lyndhurst Stud Farm to Desleigh Forster) and Epaulette (Lot 186 - Kenmore Lodge to A List Stud) also proved popular and sold for $100,000 across the afternoon.

Almost $3.6 million was traded today on 124 lots at an average price of $29,024. The clearance rate currently sits at 68 per cent.

"Under the circumstances and current climate the sale held up reasonably well," Magic Millions Managing Director Barry Bowditch said.

"Vendors have not only presented their horses in good fashion but they have tried to meet the market as best as possible."

"The buyers that have done the hard work are shopping very well and with the prizemoney these horses are eligible to race for value is being found at all levels."

"We are expecting more the same tomorrow," Bowditch added. "Anyone that isn't here and is looking to play in the market should get in touch with our team."
