A $5,000 Son Of Dash For Cash With Big Ambitions

Mark Smith - Sunday March 1

The 2002 Group 1 MRC Futurity Stakes and Group 1 VRC Australian Guineas winner Dash For Cash is well into the veteran ranks of stallions these days but his son Blazejowski is making sure the highly popular, near white, son of Secret Savings remains in the spotlight.

Dash For Cash had a legion of fans who admired his tenacity and while Blazejowski may not be in the old mans league he is also building a fan base due to his consistency.

Blazejowski’s win in Saturday's Group III Shaftesbury Avenue Handicap (1400m) at Flemington may have earned him a shot at the Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap at Brisbane's winter carnival.

With Craig Williams in the saddle, the Greg Eurell-trained gelding defeated Morvada (Mossman) by a long-neck with the favourite Age Of Chivalry (He’s Remarkable) a head away third.

"We'll put him away now and see if we can have a go at it," Eurell told AAP.

"He's dynamite over 1400 metres so it's his right race and he likes soft tracks, so it won't matter what is presented up there and you know you'll be in with a fighting chance.

"He won't have long out as he has to wind back up and get going again.

"He's had three runs this time and hasn't been hard on himself and with the grass up to your knees, he'll enjoy that."

Bred by Lesa Oldcastle, Blazejowski was purchased by Wayne Elder for just $5,000 at the 2015 Inglis Great Southern Weanling Sale.

Oldcastle had purchased Blazejowski’s dam Ellexcell for the same amount at the 2014 Inglis Great Southern Bloodstock Sale when carrying the future Group III winner.

Saturday’s breakthrough stakes win advances his record to 8 wins, 3 seconds and 2 thirds from 18 starts with earnings of $372,050.

A winning daughter of Octagonal from the family of Grosveror, Lonhro and Lankan Rupee, Ellexcell has a 2yo colt by Starcraft and a colt foal by Ready For Victory.

Blazejowski becomes the tenth stakes-winner for Dash For Cash who stood his 17th season at stud last spring, covering 15 mares at a fee of $2,750 at Scenic Lodge Thoroughbred Stud.
