Camelot Stayer Wins for Danny O’Brien

Tara Madgwick - Saturday February 29

Lightly raced French bred stayer King of Leogrance (Fr) gave Melbourne Cup winning trainer Danny O’Brien an early stakes success at Flemington on Saturday when taking out the Listed VRC Roy Higgins Quality (2600m).

Running in the famed colours of Nick and Lloyd Williams for a big group of owners, the Camelot gelding was placed twice in four starts during the spring, but appears to have improved since then and has more wins in store.

A stakes-winner in France before coming out here, he started favourite and surged clear to win by more than a length taking his overall record to four wins and four placings from 11 starts.

Bought for 200,000 euros at the Arqana Yearling Sale, King of Leogrance is entered for the Group I ATC Sydney Cup and is the best of two winners from stakes-placed Halling mare Amourette.

King of Leogrance is one of 26 stakes-winners for Montjeu’s Epsom Derby winning son Camelot, who has proven to be a top class source of staying talent.
