Gippsland Bloodstock are proud to offer five sensational colts at the 2020 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale including one from the family of Australian Cup contender Miss Siska and another by Wandjina, sire of Group II ATC Skyline Stakes winner Mamaragan.
In past years the family was most noted for producing powerhouse sprinter Hay List, a triple Group I winner of $2.5million, but in recent weeks his younger half-sister Miss Siska has staked her claim for the family crown with two brilliant wins in the Group II MRC Peter Young Stakes and Group III MRC Carlyon Cup.
Lot 719 is a flashy chestnut colt from the first crop of dual Group I winner Palentino from Sea Horse, a half-sister by Delzao to both Hay List and Miss Siska.
Phoebe and Dean Grass of Gippsland Bloodstock have established their business on a farm purchased in 2004 at Garfield (Gippsland).
"We break in all breeds of horses, pre train thoroughbreds and have a small handful of race horses as my husband Dean is a licenced trainer," said Phoebe Grass.
"We also have spent most of our lives in the quarter horse industry breeding and competing, so horses are a real passion for us.
"Our first trade horse was Frenzy Fox who won his maiden at Murtoa by seven lengths and sold to Cliff Brown. He won the Singapore QEII Cup.
"We started Ready2Race with Inglis in 2015, pinkhooking two colts, Elzaam $20 - $90k, Helmet $27-$110k and with encouragement from Inglis given our ability to prepare sales horses, we now have our second yearling draft here at Melbourne Premier."
2019 was the first year of selling yearlings for Gippsland Bloodstock with two colts offered at Melbourne Premier.
"A Nostradamus x Spirit of Sienna colt sold to Paul Moroney for $80k and his first race start at Sandown last Wednesday placing 4th beaten just two and a half lengths.," said Phoebe Grass.
"Our other colt was passed in, by Pride of Dubai x True Mettle, he has been put through our Ready2Race preparation and now racing in our stable ( Dean Grass Racing) recently placing third at his first start at Bendigo."
Another weanling purchase, Always Chattin’ (Squamosa x Zoeanos) has also been prepared through their Ready2Race program.
"He was our first two year-old we’ve kept and raced," Grass revealed.
"He was unlucky in his first start at Moonee Valley, knuckling over out the gates losing his rider Michael Poy in December, but then backed up 12 days later at Geelong on Jan 9th winning his maiden 2yo race at $101.
"His next start, Talindert Stakes, he unfortunately fractured his sesamoid, showed how tough he is beating two horses home including the favourite. He has had a very successful surgery performed by Dr John Russel at MeLbourne Equine Vet hospital, and is on the road to recovery."
