Hong Kong Derby Contender for Epaulette

Tara Madgwick - Sunday February 23

Godolphin homebred Cossetot won the Listed Tasmanian Derby last year and placed in several Group races during the Sydney Autumn Carnival and was subsequently sold to Hong Kong where he won at Sha Tin on Sunday under his new name Amazing Beats.

Amazing Beats wins on the inside - image HKJCNow trained by Paul O’Sullivan, the four year-old Epaulette gelding scored a determined win on the Class Two event over 2000 metres.

“He got the best run in the race and he had the lightest weight but he showed plenty of ticker and he showed the 2000 metres certainly doesn’t worry him,”  said Paul O’Sullivan.

“He won the Tasmanian Derby – the Hong Kong Derby is a little bit of a step up but he was a Group 3 type of horse going around the city tracks in Australia and whether that’s good enough to win a Hong Kong Derby I don’t know, but he’ll certainly get his chance now.”

Amazing Beats has four wins and four placings from 13 starts and is a half-brother to Golden Slipper winner Kiamichi from Canny Lad mare Ouachita, a sibling to Group I winners Denman and Preserve.
