So many first season sires have been enjoying good results this year with a strong middle market eager to support a variety of our new young gun sires with varying profiles.
For a long time Australian bred and performed freshman sires have ruled the roost, but this year buyers seem to have a more favourable reception towards shuttle sires with Coolmore’s Triple Crown winner American Pharoah (USA) ending as the leading first season sire at Inglis Classic by average.
He had five yearlings average $151,000 highlighted by Tooloogan Vale’s filly from To Please a Lady that made $250,000 and it was the third major sale in a row where he has taken top honours following on from Magic Millions and Karaka.
We expect to see horses like Newgate Farm’s Extreme Choice and Capitalist proving popular as Group I winning two year-olds by champion sires in Not a Single Doubt and Snitzel, but interesting to see Arrowfield Stud’s Shalaa (IRE) and Maurice (Jpn) right up there with them.
Darley’s high class shuttler Frosted (USA) had only one horse sold at Classic that made $80,000, but the trend we are seeing would have to give cause for optimism for his supporters heading towards the Inglis Premier Yearling Sale where he will have 15 youngsters on offer.
Capitalist had the single highest result of any of the first season sires at this sale with his colt from Pearl Congenial fetching $340,000 and he was also the leading first season sire by aggregate with 22 yearlings generating $2,369,000 at an average $107,682.
