Brazen Beau's Pretty Brazen Captures Sandown Guineas

Mark Smith - Saturday November 16

The expensive Brazen Beau filly Pretty Brazen became the seventh consecutive stakes performer and third stakes-winner for the remarkable broodmare, Pretty Penny when she toughed out a win in Saturday’s $250,000 Group II Ladbrokes Sandown Guineas (1600m).

Given a positive ride by Luke Currie, Pretty Brazen did not have to go around a horse to record a long neck win over the $1,000,000 Fastnet Rock colt with a half-head  back to the highly promising Puissance De Lune (IRE) colt Heart Of Puissance who led them up and looked likely to drop out before rallying and taking plenty of ground off the winner.Pretty Brazen captures the Sandown Guineas image Darryl Sherer

In earning her first stakes success. Pretty Brazen advanced her record to 4 wins and 1 second from 10 starts with earnings of $378,075.

The Tony and Calvin McEvoy-trained filly will now be spelled and set for an autumn campaign.

"Now that I know she can run a strong 1600 metres there's a number of races that will be available," Tony McEvoy told AAP.

"We can look to the Australian Guineas but there's also options in Sydney.

"She's got class, beautiful movement, has a beautiful temperament and the reason she cost $700,000 was I wasn't the only one that liked her.

"There was a lot of competition and I think we can relax now and enjoy the future.

"We had a sit down after Flemington after she ran so well and I said to the owners let's have a go at the mile.

"It's worked out magnificently and to win a Group Two with a valuable filly just means so much."Pretty Brazen a glorious looking daughter of Brazen Beau image Darryl Sherer

Pretty Brazen was purchased out of the Coolmore Stud draft for $700,000 by McEvoy Mitchell Racing on behalf of Linda Huddy’s Peachester Lodge at the 2018 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.

"Brazen Beau was pretty hot and I had Dollar For Dollar out of that mare (Pretty Penny) and she just oozed class at the sales and Linda Huddy was very strong," Tony McEvoy said.

She is the seventh foal of the talented Encosta de Lago mare Pretty Penny who earned black-type when third in the Group III Cockram Stakes.

This has been a good day for Pretty Penny whose first foal was the Group II Zipping Classic winner Sertorius (Galileo) who has banked over $1.2 million with seven wins. Then followed the stakes-placed winner Fortune Of War (General Nediym), the stakes-placed I Am Titanium (Flying Spur), the ill-fated Sebring filly Clifton Red who won the VRC Thoroughbred Breeders' Stakes in her four-start career, the multiple Group III winner Dollar For Dollar (High Chaparral), and the multiple stakes-placed  Rezealient (Sebring) who ran three consecutive seconds in stakes races including the Group 1 SAJC Derby.

Rising 16, Pretty Penny was consigned to the 2016 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale with Colm Santry Bloodstock having the final say at $570,000 on behalf of Dr Dennis and Claire O'Brien of Clairden Racing.

She was carrying Pretty Brazen at the time of her sale. Pretty Penny has a yearling filly by the Triple Crown winner American Pharoah (USA) and is due to foal to him again this season.

Pretty Brazen becomes the sixth stakes-winner for Darley Stud’s Brazen Beau (I Am Invincible) who is covering at Northwood Park this season at a fee of $49,500.
