Rubick might have been making news this week thanks to his Everest winning son Yes Yes Yes, but he was quickly back into the winner’s circle at Moonee Valley on Friday night when promising three year-old Ruuca saluted for Gold Coast trainer Toby Edmonds.
An easy debut winner at Ipswich back in April, Ruuca was a close up third when resuming from a spell at Eagle Farm on August 31 and was fresh for this 1000 metre scamper at The Valley.
Given a cosy ride by Damien Oliver saving ground on the fence, Ruuca accelerated well when shown clear running and scored a half length win as favourite.
A $150,000 Magic Millions purchase from the Segenhoe draft for Edmonds Racing, Ruuca has already won over $95,000 with two wins and a third from just three starts.
Bred and sold by Segenhoe, Ruuca is the second winner from Mining Tycoon, a half-sister by Redoute’s Choice to Group I winner Bentley Biscuit from the Christmas Spirit branch of the Denise’s Joy family.
Ruuca looks a progressive type for Rubick, who is fully booked this year at Coolmore a fee of $38,500.
