Queensland apprentice broken but not beaten

Ben Dorries - Saturday August 26

Young Queensland apprentice Alannah Fancourt has posted pictures of her injuries and re-assured everyone she is in good spirits after a race fall at Murwillumbah on Friday.

X-rays showing Alannah Fancourt's broken right arm

Fancourt is facing an extended time on the sidelines after breaking her right arm when she came off her mount Je Suis Prest in the straight and crashed to the turf.

"Thank you to everyone for the messages, calls and well wishes," the young jockey wrote on Facebook.

"I have fractured my ulna bone in my right arm and have a possible nose fracture with a laceration that's been stitched. I will see the surgeon next week who will put a plate in my arm.

"I count my blessings and look forward to getting back in the saddle as soon as possible to finish my apprenticeship."

Fancourt was second in the Brisbane apprentice's premiership last season and was due to come out of her time in October.

"She was thinking about applying for an extension of time anyway but I am sure she will now ask to extend her apprenticeship," her master Tony Gollan said.

Fancourt returned to the saddle after a long rehabilitation from fracturing her neck a horror fall at Toowoomba on New Year's Eve 2015.

At the time she was given the bleak news she may never ride again but fought back to re-start her promising career.
