A dual Group I winner of the Victoria Derby and South Australian Derby, Rebel Raider has died suddenly at Wyndholm Park in Victoria this week due to a ruptured aorta.
Rebel Raider retired to stud in 2011 and has sired the winners of over $4.9million in earnings with highlight horses including Group III winners Pretty Punk and Waging War as well as stakes-winner Wasabi Bob.
"He was a genuine quality Group 1 horse who possessed speed and stamina,” said Wyndholm Park’s Kim McKellar.
"He was a fantastic stallion for owner-breeders and they're the people that make our business and are at the heart of the industry.
"He achieved outstanding results from some fairly modest mares and definitely had the revered capacity to upgrade his mares and produce a better thoroughbred.
"His stock were all good, strong types very much like himself.”
Rebel Raider will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
"He was the perfect stallion, never had an issue and was just a lovely animal,” McKellar added.
“His loss is a blow to owner-breeders in Victoria and to our family and stud."
