More Than Ready Mare Wins Grade 1 First Lady Stakes

Mark Smith - Sunday October 6

Following the win of his 2yo son Global Quest in the Breeders' Plate at Randwick on Saturday, the ageless More Than Ready (USA) struck at the highest level in the United States when the Chad Brown-trained Uni (GB) claimed the $400,000 First Lady Stakes on the turf at Keeneland in course record time.

The race was supposed to be another stepping stone for Uni's undefeated stablemate Rushing Fall but she was never a factor as Uni came from the tail of the field, blew straight passed her, on the way to a two and a half length defeat of Juliet Foxtrot (GB) (Dansili) with Vasilika ( Skipshot) a further one and a quarter lengths back in third.

It secured Uni (GB) a spot in the field for the Grade I Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf, however, since she is not Breeders' Cup-nominated, connections will need to stump up $100,000.

Uni (GB) advances her record to 9 wins, 3 seconds and 3 thirds from 17 starts with earnings of $1,247,880.

Bred by Haras d'Etreham, Uni (GB) was a Listed winner in France before transferring to the United States where she won the Grade 1 Matriarch Stakes at Del Mar last December.

Her dam Unaided (Dansili) raced with out success in Japan. She is half-sister to Italian Group III winner Whazzis (Desert Prince) and stakes-winner Whazzat (Daylami), the dam of Exceed And Excels' Group II Mill Reef Stakes winner James Garfield, from the family of Rafha and Invincible Spirit.

Unaided has a 2-year-old Le Havre colt named Bring Him Home and produced an Almanzor colt in 2019.
