Astute
trainer Grahame Begg bid farewell to his stable star Written By at the end of
last season, but he has a Redoute's Choice filly that may just step into his
shoes and go all the way to Group I success this season.
A Breednet 'One to Watch' when winning on debut at Geelong at in late July, three
year-old filly Beauty Bolt reappeared in a 1300 metre Class 1 event on Thursday
at Seymour and steamed home from a clear last before the turn to win by a
comfortable half length with Jordan Childs in the saddle.
"We hoped she could come her and show us what she did," Childs said.
"She's still learning her craft, but has quite a bit of ability."
Beauty Bolt is entered for the Group I MRC Thousand Guineas and has a pedigree
to suggest the VRC Oaks might not be beyond her either if she continues to
thrive and improve.
"We feel she's a filly going places," said Grahame Begg.
"We'll up the ante now as we go forward and try and pick the right races for
her."
Not offered at auction, Beauty Bolt is
the third winner from three foals to race from Sasa, a former talented Encosta
de Lago filly that was second in the Group I ATC Champagne Stakes.
Sasa is from Group III winning Zabeel mare Zatella, so there is a real depth of
pedigree to suggest Beauty Bolt could easily get over longer trips as her
classic season unfolds..
