Top bets from Brad Waters for Moonee Valley Saturday

Brad Waters - Friday August 25

They don't race at Moonee Valley often enough on a Saturday these days but hopefully we can make a handy profit at the track's first meeting of the season.

They'll be celebrating in the streets of this ridiculously congested Melbourne suburb if Duke Of Brunswick wins at the Valley on Saturday.

LORESHO (Moonee Valley - Race 1 No 1)

I marked Loresho as one to follow after his solid fourth to Aloft at Flemington on August 9, noting he'll be a great show with the fitness gained after four runs back from a spell and Saturday's assignment looks a good one for the imported stayer. He was held up at Flemington before working home well but I'm anticipating Loresho to land in the box seat from barrier two on Saturday, which will give jockey Mark Zahra ample opportunity to get the seven-year-old into clear running when he needs to get going. I'm happy to have something on him at the $8

LIMESTONE (Moonee Valley – Race 3 No 3)

I backed Limestone in the pre-post betting on the Blue Diamond during her summer campaign in which she won a couple then went down narrowly to Catchy in the Blue Diamond Prelude before trainer Darren Weir decided to end her preparation at that point. However, I am confident of getting that money back and a bit more on Saturday with this talented daughter of Helmet. She was beaten three-quarters of a length by Catchy and Garrard at the Valley on debut before improving at every subsequent run. Weir is set to reap the benefit of giving Limestone an early break and her spring campaign can start with a win on Saturday.

DUKE OF BRUNSWICK (Moonee Valley – Race 8 No 4)

Duke Of Brunswick was another that was in my horses to follow column after his effort to run second first-up at Flemington on July 8 and that run preceded a sound effort without looking a winning chance in the heavy ground in the Bletchingly Stakes at Sandown a month later. He'll have come on from that run and the reliable galloper drops back in grade to Benchmark 90 level for his Moonee Valley assignment. The extra trip will suit him here and he's a great show to record his eighth win on Saturday.
