With
the new season beginning on Thursday this will be our last Juvenile Trial Watch
story for a while and it highlights a very interesting youngster who had his
first public outing today and while his big brother Chautauqua is about to
start a well-publicised new career as a show horse, this guy has it all in
front of him on the track.
Prepared by Peter and Paul Snowden, two year-old More Than Ready (USA) colt
Rouchel was retained to race by the Throsby family, who also bred and shared in
the ownership of Chautauqua.
A champion sprinter that won 13 races, five of them Group I, and over $8million
in prizemoney, Chautauqua did not race as a two year-old and Rouchel has also been
given time to mature with this 735 metre scamper his first gallop in the public
eye.
He jumped fast for Tommy Berry and was always prominent albeit covering ground
out wide and cruised to the line under his own steam to win by the best part of
a length.
Rouchel is a half-brother to seven winners including stakes-winner London Lolly
as well as Chautauqua and is the tenth foal from Lion Hunter’s dual Group I
winning daughter Lovely Jubly.
Rising 20, Lovely Jubly has a weanling filly by Air Force Blue (USA) and is in
foal to Spirit of Boom.
