Red Letter Day for American Pharoah

Tara Madgwick - Sunday June 30
Coolmore's Triple Crown hero American Pharoah (USA) has already made news this year with two promising winners in Maven and Monarch of Egypt and they both delivered Black Type performances overnight in Europe with the former winning the Group III Prix du Bois in France, while Monarch of Egypt was second in the Group II Railway stakes at The Curragh.

American PharoahMaven has had a busy few months, opening his career in North America with a win at Aqueduct in April for astute trainer Wesley Ward.

Shipped across the Atlantic, he was then offered at the Goffs London Sale on the eve of Royal Ascot with an entry in the Norfolk Stakes but was unsold at £725,000, and then withdrawn from his royal engagement due to soft ground.

He reappeared at Chantilly in France and confirmed his potential with a tenacious win in the Group III Prix du Bois over 1000 metres keeping his undefeated record intact.

Bred and retained to race by Richard Ravin and Wesley Ward, Maven is the first foal of stakes-winner Richies Party Girl, who was also trained by Ward.

The Aidan O'Brien trained Monarch of Egypt was having his first start since winning on debut at Naas in April and was strong to the line in finishing a gallant second to highly regarded colt Siskin in the six furlong sprint.

American Pharoah returns to Australia this spring for Coolmore at a fee of $66,000.

His first Australian bred yearlings will hit the sales here in 2020.
