Erato, catalogued in the supplementary as Lot 1922, sold for $1.75 million and was one of three individual lots to sell for $1 million or more, bringing to 11 the number of seven figure sellers for the sale.
Presented at the sale by Yarraman Park Stud, as agent, Erato was snapped up by Yu Long Investments – pushing them to a clear lead on the leading buyers table for total spend.
"Obviously she’s a blue hen,” Sam Fairgray said after signing for the top seller. "It’s a great family and she’s produced the Blue Diamond winner.”
"Mr Zhang was very keen to get her and we are very pleased she will be joining the Yu Long team.”
Erato provided the team from Australian Bloodstock with a dream result. They purchased her for $120,000 two years ago at the National Broodmare Sale when she was offered through the Godolphin draft.
With her first foal since winning the Blue Diamond Stakes the team decided to offered her in foal to Russian Revolution and it proved a masterstroke.
"The success of mares like Erato and Lipari this week show the opportunities for buyers at the National Broodmare Sale,” Magic Millions Managing Director Barry Bowditch said. "It is fantastic to see our buyers rewarded with updates and they are able to re-offer those mares to the market.”
A short time later in the supplementary Widden Stud and leading international bloodstock agent David Redvers teamed up to make their second seven figure purchase for the day when they bought Bonny O’Reilly for $1.2 million when offered by Glastonbury Farms.
A stakes winner, Bonny O’Reilly is due to produce her first foal by Snitzel in August.
Earlier Widden and Redvers teamed up to buy Vezalay from the Newgate Consignment for $1 million. That stakes winner is in foal to I Am Invincible.
"She was one of our star picks of the sale,” Widden’s Antony Thompson said. "She is such a good looker and was a very good racehorse – she had that exceptional speed and she had that bit of x-factor when she hit the track.”
"Obviously she’s in foal to a hot sire and she will be a great mare for Zoustar,” he added.
Across the four days of the Book One sale over $104 million was traded on 707 lots sold at a clearance rate of 79% and an impressive average price of $147,136. Missrock stayed the top seller from Day One with her $2.3 million sale.
"We’ve had 11 mares sell for $1 million or more, which is up from nine last year,” Magic Millions Managing Director Barry Bowditch said. "We’re thrilled with that.”
"The overall result from the sale is fantastic.”
"The bloodstock team have worked extremely hard to put this all together. The whole team have worked hard logistically – it’s a huge job and kudos goes to them.”
"We have our National Yearling Sale starting on Wednesday,” Bowditch added. "It’s a really nice line up of yearlings.”
"We are excited to be getting them on the grounds from tomorrow. It’s a great opportunity at the end of the season for the buyers to come and buy yearlings at realistic prices.”
