Lightly
raced three year-old Choisir filly Music Bay scored a well deserved first Black
Type win when beating older mares to win the Group II SAJC Quen of the south
Stakes at Morphettville on Saturday.
The Phillip Stokes trained filly was stakes-placed last spring and then
contested some of the better fillies races before heading for a spell.
Brought along quietly this preparation in easier grade, Music Bay found her
best form to score a half length win in the 1600 metre feature taking her
overall record to three wins and four seconds from 11 starts with prizemoney just
shy of $250,000.
Retained to race by her breeders, Music Bay is the best of four winners from
Kaapstad mare Illicitly, a half-sister to Group I Brisbane Cup winner Piachay
and stakes-winner Utility.
She is the 95th stakes-winner Coolmore veteran Choisir, who stands
this spring at a fee of $27,500.
