Japanese G3 Winner for Fastnet Rock

Tara Madgwick - Sunday March 31
A $250,000 Inglis Easter purchase for Katsumi Yoshida from the Kia Ora Stud draft in 2016, Fastnet Rock stallion Fiano Romano scored his first Black type win in Japan when taking out the Group III Lord Derby Challenge Trophy at Nakayama.

Fiano Romano as a yearlingTrained by Tomokazu Takano, Fiano Romano scored a neck win in the 1600 metre turf feature defeating Deep Impact mare Primo Scene, a daughter of Fastnet Rock's multiple Group I winner Mosheen.

Fiano Romano has won six of 11 starts and is a brother to stakes-placed Ameristralia, who was bought from the Kia Ora Inglis Easter draft for $400,000 by Spendthrift Farm in 2014 and is now at stud for them in North America, so it's a very international family that will only keep improving.

Fiano Romano and Ameristralia are from US Group III winner Heart Ashley (USA), a half-sister to Group I winner Cupid that was bought from the Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale for Kia Ora by James Bester Bloodstock for $US500,000.

Kia Ora sold the current yearling from Heart Ashley at Magic Millions this year, the colt by More Than Ready (USA) fetching $280,000 when bought by Aquis Farm.

Fiano Romano is the 145th stakes-winner for champion sire Fastnet Rock.
