Country crackers for Saturday

Breednet - Saturday August 19

The major focus on any Saturday is metropolitan racing but there's plenty of us out there that don't mind a dabble at the support meetings across the country so here's our best bets.

Bet you can't find a better setting for a racetrack than in Broome?

On Saturday we've come up with a tip at the Kembla, Seymour, Gold Coast and Broome meetings.

KEMBLA

HISTORY REPEATS (Race 2 No. 5) The blueblood resumes from a spell in a race with a bit of depth meaning we should be able to get a backable price. On debut, this daughter of More than Ready out of the four-time Group I winner Tuesday Joy, had absolutely no luck in running when fourth, beaten 2-1/4 lengths by the impressive I Thought So. Also finishing behind the smart son of So You Think that day was Australian Oaks runner-up Perfect Rhyme, Adrian Knox Stakes winner Walking Moment and Frank Packer Plate placegetter Screamarr. History Repeats trialled recently at Rosehill and we liked the way the mare worked through the line. On Saturday, she should be afforded favours from the inside gate and take plenty of holding out with 1200m appearing well within her reach first-up.

SEYMOUR

VOYANT (Race 2 No. 6) Specking one and hoping for a bit of odds about the four-year-old mare resuming for the Clinton McDonald stable. She ran a solid race on debut before not really going on with at her next two starts, but she was kept safe in the betting in all three starts, so she must have been showing the stable something. She's had two jumpouts for her return run and looked sharp in the 650m contest on August 1 where she cruised along in front with the only runner close to her under hard riding. There's a few in the race that have shown a bit of form, especially the Godolphin runner Canadienne but she's draw extremely wide where Voyant will get a perfect run just off pace from the good gate. If she runs up to the jump out she'll run us a big race and hopefully at a bit of a price.

GOLD COAST

MURTASTEEL (Race 5 No. 2) This maiden galloper is fairly exposed having already had 13 starts but our key reasoning as to why he can change things around on Saturday is he's joined the powerful Toby Edmonds stable since he last raced at Rockhampton 58 days ago. This gelding caught our eye when given an easy time by Jeff Lloyd in a 1000m trial at the Gold Coast on July 31 and when you go back through his form there are a few performances that indicate he has the ability to be winning a race like this. Our speedmap has him landing about three pairs from the speed and getting the right run to thrust comeback jockey Darryl McLellan back into the spotlight on Saturday.

BROOME

GLORYLAND (Race 8 No. 2) It's Broome Cup day on Saturday so we have to have a throw at the stumps in the $135,000 feature. Gloryland has found a new lease of life since he made the trip up from the National Highway from Perth to Broome. Four starts back he was beaten 34-1/4 lengths at Belmont then 21 days later on the Broome dirt it was an easy 2-1/2 length win before backing that up with a 7-1/2 lengths win over 1800m. Last time out he was bloused in the last hop but there was a significant eight lengths back to third. On Saturday, he's up to 2200m for the first time which is some query but from the inside gate he should get all the favours in the run and he'll give a mighty sight.
