Better Than Ready vs Spirit Of Boom at the same stage?

Craig Tompson - Sunday December 16
Last year the Queensland based Spirit Of Boom had one of the great first seasons and after yesterday's red letter day fellow Queenslander Better Than Ready is off to a flyer, so we thought we'd compare their figures at the same stage of the season.

Better Than ReadySpirit Of Boom easily won the First Season by winners title last season with 18 wins, better than all the winners in the past 10 years bar Northern Meteor who also had 18.

The fact Spirit Of Boom had five stakes winners compared to Norther Meteor's three was also an impressive stat and after a bit of a slow start he is building to a strong second season too.

After yesterday's two stakes winners, Better Than Ready's figures so far read 16 runners for six winners of nine races.

Quite similar in fact to where Spirit Of Boom sat at the same time last year, with 14 runners for six winners of seven races and also two stakes winners.

Compared to the previous three champions by winners they are and were well ahead of the game with Your Song, Love Conquers All and Rothesay all having only had one winner by this stage of the season.

The other stunningly successful first season performer was Northern Meteor in the 2012/13 season and at this stage sat on six runners for two winners.

Spirit Of Boom subsequently had another 38 runners which yielded 12 more winners while Northern Meteor had 39 runners for 12 winners.

So Better Than Ready has put himself right at the top of the pile so far and his quest to match or better that from here will be most interesting although with a foal crop of 106 compared to Spirit Of Boom's 121 and Northern Meteor's 152, it's not going to be easy.
