Winner
of the Group III BRC Fred Best Classic at three, lightly raced five year-old Nicconi
gelding Niccanova recaptured top form when winning the Listed BRC Recognition Stakes
at Doomben on Saturday.
An easy last start winner at Doomben, the Steve Tregea trained Niccanova was
favourite for his return to Black Type company and hit the line hard to win the
1350 metre contest by half a length.
Bred and retained to race by Windemere Stud, Niccanova has the impressive
record of seven wins and four placings from 12 starts with prizemoney topping $424,000.
He is the first foal of unraced Snippetson mare Dananova, who comes from the
family of juvenile stakes-winner Ploverset and New Zealand Group I winner
Southern Lord.
Niccanova is the fifth stakes-winner this season for Widden Stud's quiet achiever
Nicconi, who is well represented at upcoming yearling sales. Nicconi has 22
entries for Magic Millions and 35 for Inglis Classic.
